They are found throughout the southern part of the United States.  They build huge mound nests and you should avoid them at all costs.  When you interfere with a fire ant nest, it can cause them to sting and attack.  The result is painful welts!

This species arrived from Asia into the United States in 1996 and has spread rapidly throughout much of the country.  They are a huge threat to agriculture and will invade homes in large numbers.  Their odor is very unpleasant when disturbed or crushed.

They are aggressive in nature and difficult to control once they infest a structure.  A colony can cause severe damage to a home in as little as 6 months.

Believed to be originally from Asia but are now found throughout the world.  They cause damage to structures because of their gnawing and also carry serious diseases like the plague, jaundice, rat-bite fever and salmonellosis.
